For the love of Pithe, this Puja

Read Time:1 Minute, 18 Second

Its not the conventional finger food to be had in pubs or casual restaurants. Neither is it the panchabyanjan of a Bengali restaurant. To say it simply, Pithe Bilashi is tradition with a twist.  Nabanita Chakraborty’s  innovation on pithe, patisapta and puli are simply irresistible. Nabanita’s restaurant at Satish Mukherjee Road , off Rashbehari Avenue, is a foodie’s paradise. “I love to innovate with taste and the traditional food items of Bengal. I have experimented with Bengal’s pithe puli,  sweets that are always made at home for Makar Sankranti or other occasions, and made them in different flavours with new ingredients. For instance, no one will imagine a patisapta  made with fish. We have always had this item with coconut or kheer stuffing. But I have made this variant and it’s a great hit at Pithe Bilashi,” said Nabanita.

After New Town, Nalban Food Park and Dekho Re at Laldighi in Dalhousie, Pithe Bilashi opened its first south Kolkata address near Rashbehari Avenue on Rath Yatra day. The  décor and ambience is simple but gives a cozy and relaxing feel, away from the hustle and bustle of the town. Dorma (mats made from bamboo shavings) have been used at the entrance to add to the ethnic  flavor of the restaurant. The lights have been made from wicker baskets. The place is soothing and makes any visitor feel at home. Food is served in earthen utensils, emphasizing  the ethnic Bengal element.
